The transport industry is one of the areas that will face the biggest challenges, according to the German Biomass Research Center (DBFZ) : In order to meet the German government’s climate protection goals by 2030, it is not only necessary to significantly reduce final energy consumption, but also to increase the amount of energy coming from renewable sources, including biofuel. In a 187-page report , the Research Center points out what users of biofuel should, or have to, get ready for: It details production and sales, as well as economical considerations, among other things. It also presents the future prospects of power-to-x fuel, a topic which is being intensively researched at the moment.

Above all, the biofuel industry is calling for stable, legal framework conditions: Support has been drastically revised time and time again, and even questioned completely. Elmar Baumann, Managing Director at the VBD (Association of the German Biofuel Industry ) discussed this in an interview with the specialist portal energate-messenger.de . He said it was difficult for businesses to apply the “demanding production methods” from the lab on a far larger industrial scale.
