Rheinmetall Automotive secures lightweight components

Through its subsidiary KS Kolbenschmidt GmbH , Rheinmetall Automotive AG , one of the biggest auto-industry suppliers worldwide, has acquired a 24.9% stake in CarbonTT . The Stade-based company specializes in innovative load-bearing structural components made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP). CarbonTT is focused on the cost-effective series-production of CFRP chassis for light commercial vehicles. CarbonTT Managing Director Gerret Kalkoffen emphasizes the growing importance of lightweight materials: “Lightweighting will be a major contributor to reducing vehicle emissions and supporting e-mobility. Our production technology allows OEMs to cost-effectively utilize CFRP components, improve vehicle efficiency, and create value for their customers.” CarbonTT complements the product portfolio of Rheinmetall Automotive’s Hardparts Division, which focuses on combustion engines, with lightweight structural components and specialized composite manufacturing processes. KS Kolbenschmidt will support CarbonTT in its quest to industrialize the production process and implement the corresponding quality system.
