Sensors with that certain something
The fluid specialists from Bürkert are integrating IO-Link and the Bürkert system bus (büS) into their conductivity and pH sensors. Digitalization not only reduces the installation effort, but also provides users with diagnostic data and remote maintenance options - for the benefit of system availability.

Bürkert Fluid Control Systems, headquartered in Ingelfingen in southern Germany, is a leading global manufacturer of measurement and control systems for liquids and gases. Bürkert's solutions are used in a wide range of industries and applications - from breweries and laboratories to medical, biotechnology and aerospace technology. With a portfolio of more than 30,000 products, Bürkert claims to be the only supplier to cover all components of the fluid control loop consisting of measurement, control and regulation: from solenoid valves to process and analysis valves to pneumatic actuators and sensors.
Reduced installation costs and additional options
The latter - especially when used in water or chemical applications to monitor the pH value or oxidation-reduction potential (redox) of liquids or to measure conductivity - normally supply analog signals that are transmitted to a PLC (programmable logic controller). This usually means installation work, costly cabling and corresponding input cards for the controller. Bürkert Fluid Control Systems has therefore integrated two digital industrial protocols in its pH/ORP transmitter Type 8202 and in its conductivity transmitter Type 8222: IO-Link and the Bürkert system bus büS/CANopen. Digitalization reduces the installation effort, users have additional diagnostic data and remote maintenance options at their disposal and system availability increases.
Simple commissioning and networking
All data can be transferred to the PLC or a cloud in real time. This opens up many evaluation options for the system operator, but also for OEMs and system integrators. Digital communication also enables fast commissioning, as sensor parameters can be conveniently entered via laptop. The Communicator software, which is free for users, updates itself automatically when connected to the Internet. The transmitters can also be easily networked with other sensors or actuators. In the "Bürkert-büS world", up to 128 participants (sensors, valves or valve terminals) can be connected to each other. For the conversion to an Ethernet protocol, such as PROFINET, Ethernet/IP, Modbus/TCP, EtherCAT, CC-Link, only one gateway is required for the entire system, which saves the user costs.
