The word "agile" has entered the field of mechanical engineering. Today, many industrial machinery manufacturers are faced with the challenge of how to flexibly adapt and make available their machine tool designs. This applies in particular to machines that can be integrated into facilities already in operation. Siemens has announced an engineering solution throughout the entire value chain for this.
The Advanced Machine Engineering concept is a platform that combines mechanical, electrical and software-technical data and enables design engineers to work with a fully digital prototype or digital twin during the development process. The approach is based on a production development strategy that defines functional modules that are easy to modify. This means that mechanical engineers can use draft designs for detailed construction, electrical engineers can select the best sensors for each machine on the basis of model data, and automation engineers can access operating procedure data collected from the models.
