Six become one
The ‘Robo Pack System’ impressively demonstrates how automation with ASi-5 and ASi Safety from Bihl+Wiedemann can be made simpler, safer and more future-proof.

joke mechanix has been developing systems for welding films and plastics since 1940. For the ‘Robo Pack System’, a robot cell for the fully automated packaging of side-sealed flap bags, the company now relies on ASi-5 and ASi Safety solutions from Bihl+Wiedemann. The result: instead of six control cabinets, only one is now required – the entire periphery is connected via two ASi circuits. This eliminates the need for extensive cable bundles and terminal strips, significantly reducing the wiring effort.
Safety functions such as door locks, light grids and emergency stop buttons are connected via one of the two ASi circuits to a profile cable around the protective fence and monitored by the ASi Safety Gateway. Even devices without their own ASi Safety function can be easily integrated via active distributors. The pneumatics have also been implemented efficiently: IO-Link valve islands and sensors are integrated via ASi-5 modules with integrated IO-Link master ports and self-configuring I/O modules. According to Bihl+Wiedemann, this not only reduces cabling, but also ensures a high degree of flexibility for adjustments and expansions.
