Smart services thanks to digital twins
The Saarbrücken-based August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute for Digital Products and Processes aims to further develop cross-company 3D collaboration platforms with CoLab4DigiTwin. Intelligent smart services are designed to (visually) process data and provide synchronized, data-based decision-making aids for users.

With CoLab4DigiTwin, the August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute for Digital Products and Processes offers a platform that enables cross-company, collaborative work with the concept of the digital twin. At the core of CoLab4DigiTwin are smart services that aim to increase efficiency, productivity and sustainability in the automotive industry and beyond. The platform is divided into the following four core solutions.
Intelligent knowledge management
The central building block is an advanced agent or assistant that enables employees to access information quickly, even without special training. By connecting a large language model (LLM) to unstructured data, users can interact with the system using natural language, which makes information retrieval much easier.
TwinCompARe
A tablet app enables the use of augmented reality to efficiently compare the actual and target states of a plant. This allows changes to be directly recognized during construction and fed back into the 3D model.
UNGAP-DPP
UNGAP-DPP ensures the automated creation of a digital product and sustainability passport for plants, which not only simplifies certification (carbon footprint) but also makes a valuable contribution to the sustainable use of resources. Unstructured data from various suppliers serves as the basis here.
Generative media planner
The use of generative AI technologies has given rise to a solution that automatically generates 3D cabling and piping models for plant layouts. This technology not only creates precise parts and component lists, but also optimizes the planning process and reduces sources of error.
According to their developers, these four elements will not only enable significant efficiency increases and cost savings, but also set new standards in terms of user-friendliness and sustainability. With the smart services in the CoLab4DigiTwin project, the August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute aims to make a decisive contribution to leading automotive plant engineering into a digital future.
