The frequencies in question are those from 3.7 GHz through 3.8 GHz and 26 GHz. The German Federal Network Agency (BNA) has reserved these frequencies for local applications and intends to make them available to companies on request. The BVMW is now calling for this to start soon. As President of the BVMW Mario Ohoven says, key technologies, such as autonomous driving, virtual reality, and Industry 4.0, require powerful and resilient networks and connections. He therefore calls for the required frequencies to be allocated to interested companies “as quickly as possible”.

Telefonica, Vodafone, Telekom, and Drillisch had applied for the frequencies for the public network and bought them at auction for a total of almost €6.6 billion. The frequencies stated above are to be made available to companies for on-site networking, for example for the Internet of Things (IoT) and intelligent networks with high data volumes. However, the BNA has not yet specified the allocation policy for these frequencies.
