Delta, a global leader in energy management and a provider of IoT-based smart green solutions, has announced that it has delivered approximately 3,500 Delta M125HV PV inverters to MOVE ON Energy GmbH to operate Europe's currently largest solar power plant, the 650 MW Witznitz solar park. This groundbreaking project near Leipzig will generate enough green energy to power 200,000 households annually and save more than 250,000 tons of carbon emissions per year.
Meeting Stringent Requirements
“This project is a significant step in our mission to transition from traditional fossil fuels to renewable energy sources,” said Wolfgang Pielmaier, Technical Director and Co-Shareholder of MOVE ON Energy. “We chose Delta as our inverter supplier because the company has proven technical expertise and was able to meet the stringent requirements of this large-scale project. Together with Delta, we were able to obtain the necessary network certifications for the inverters to operate at the highest voltage level and maximize the efficiency and yield of the solar park through robust inverter performance.”
Innovative power electronics for the global energy transition
“The Witznitz solar park is a project of superlatives and we are pleased that we were able to play a key role in its successful realization,” reports Andreas Hoischen, Senior Director and Head of Photovoltaic Inverter Solutions at Delta EMEA. “Our research and development team, which has more than 25 years of experience in the photovoltaic industry, has the expertise to deliver top performance for this project. This collaboration with MOVE ON Energy underscores Delta's commitment to driving the global energy transition through innovative power electronics.”
An inverter that perfectly meets requirements
Delta's M125HV inverters, designed for the complex requirements of high-voltage grid integration, are a critical part of the solar park's infrastructure. With a peak efficiency of 99.1 percent and features such as an intelligent cooling system and a wide MPPT voltage range, these inverters are designed to ensure optimal performance even under harsh conditions. The M125HV is designed for 1,500 volts direct current (DC) and 600 volts alternating current (AC), has an MPP tracker and is therefore very well suited for large solar plants like Witznitz. In addition, these inverters are certified according to the VDE-AR-N 4120/4130 standards, which are crucial for the direct feed-in of energy into the 380-kilovolt grid.
Impressive metrics
The Witznitz solar park is impressive not only because of its sheer size, but also because of its logistical achievements and its contribution to environmental protection. The construction work involved almost 30,000 pallets of solar modules and 7,500 module tables, which together cover a distance of 440 kilometers and required up to 500 workers at peak times. The energy generated is transmitted via a dedicated infrastructure that includes 207 transformer stations and ensures an efficient power supply. The park's DC cables alone extend over a length of about 550 kilometers.
Focus on environmental sustainability
In addition to energy generation, the Witznitz solar park places particular emphasis on environmental sustainability. MOVE ON Energy has integrated various initiatives to promote biodiversity, including nesting boxes for birds and bats, rock piles, ponds and the planting of almost 23 kilometers of field hedges. These initiatives benefit the local ecosystem and make the solar park not only a source of clean energy but also a support for regional biodiversity.
