As Sono Motors has officially announced , the first generation of the Sion is set to be produced by Swedish/Chinese manufacturer National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) . From the second half of 2020, a total of 260,000 vehicles will roll off the production line in the former Saab factory over an eight-year period; after the ramp-up period, approximately 43,000 Sions a year will be manufactured in two-shift operation. Production will use 100% renewable energy.

The Sion will be delivered ex works with integrated sharing options. Via the mobile ‘goSono’ app developed by Sono Motors, these allow the owner to share the vehicle itself, individual journeys, or even energy. A bidirectional charging function enables the Sion to both receive and supply electricity, power electrical devices independently, and feed energy to other vehicles or into the grid. Thanks to full-surface solar integration, the vehicle battery can be charged with free solar energy worth up to 34 kilometers per day, to top up its regular range of 255 kilometers. Sono Motors has so far taken just under 10,000 partially paid pre-orders for the Sion.
