Sticking to the straight and narrow
LAPP Group narrows the diameter of new Industrial Ethernet cables by removing a twist

Even with the rapid progress in the field of wireless signal transmission, those who value maximum security and reliable data access will continue to need the requisite high quality cable equipment in the future. Stuttgart-based LAPP Group is presenting cabling solutions at this year’s HANNOVER MESSE that help improve manufacturing efficiency in more ways than one. The ETHERLINE® EC Serie from U.I. Lapp is one particular highlight.
Unlike conventional solutions, the four lines in the new ETHERLINE® EC series Industrial Ethernet cables are not twisted, but run parallel in a star quad configuration. Eliminating the twist shrinks the outer diameter of the cables by nearly ten percent. This reduction has a big impact, because Industrial Ethernet is increasingly being used at the sensor/actuator level where available space can be particularly scarce – such as in when active distributors or switches are used in the field. The new cabling series is also well suited for spaces that require especially small bending radii. Its innovative star quad design not only saves space, but also material – and therefore costs.
