German Edge Cloud (GEC) specializes in smart edge and cloud solutions. GEC's solutions make data available quickly, easily and securely in networked environments, support process optimization in the manufacturing industry, for example, via data analytics and offer customers full data sovereignty when connected to the public or private cloud. GEC is a developer and service integrator for turnkey solutions and offers both its own and industry-specific systems.

The company is part of the Friedhelm Loh Group and uses its solutions in the Industry 4.0 plant of sister company Rittal in Haiger, among other places. In collaboration with industry and research partners, the company creates simple and quickly deployable solutions that enable companies from a wide range of industries to solve digitalization challenges more effectively and achieve digital added value.

With the ONCITE Digital Production System (DPS), GEC has now created a reference architecture for the implementation of a smart factory that has been specifically developed and adapted for the use of IIoT-capable devices, digitalization and industrial application software in accordance with the principles of Industry 4.0. ONCITE DPS combines previously separate core components of digital production with flexible microservices architecture: agile production management with MES and MOM functions, industrial IoT as a database and low-code development for simple application development. There is also edge computing for superior data processing. ONCITE DPS is also a highly relevant node (integration platform) within secure digital ecosystems such as Catena-X.
