The Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, Systems Engineering and Image Evaluation, Industrial Automation Branch ( IOSB-INA ), has presented a suitcase-sized sensor system that collects and forwards data. Despite its small size of 80 x 50 cm, the casing contains a large number of measuring devices. It can perform infrared, vibration, pressure, distance, temperature, humidity and plant performance measurements while collecting various other physical properties of a plant. A programmable logic controller (PLC), a computer, a gateway and an LTE router also fit into the suitcase.

The system with the name of " Inasense " sends data to a database via mobile radio, where it can then be analyzed using, for example, machine learning methods. This allows companies to identify causes of quality deficiencies or signs of upcoming maintenance issues. "Inasense" is primarily aimed at small and medium-sized companies. Companies with the system can do without their own sensor hardware or special Industry 4.0 competence.
