Hylomar Ltd, headquartered in Wigan, UK, west of Manchester, produces a wide range of high-performance sealants and adhesives used by many leading OEMs in the automotive, aerospace, household appliances, power generation/distribution, electronics/photonics, and general engineering industries.
Hylomar products are widely used and highly regarded in these industries. According to the supplier, Hylomar Universal Blue and Hylomar M (Light, Medium, Heavy) are among the world's leading non-curing sealants. Hylomar Aerograde, Aerograde Ultra, and Advanced Formulation are specified by various engine manufacturers, including Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney. Even NATO uses Hylomar Aerograde.
With Hylomar Special, the British now have a solvent-free, non-curing sealant in their range that is resistant to a wide range of industrial and automotive fluids. According to Hylomar, it has high resistance to water, water-glycol mixtures, and salt water. The compound is said to have excellent rheological properties, allowing it to be applied robotically on high-speed production lines. As it is a non-curing and non-solidifying compound, it also offers excellent resistance to vibration, shock, and thermal expansion, according to the manufacturer.
Hylomar Special was developed to fill and seal all surface defects in the joint area, thereby sealing flanges against many industrial and automotive lubricants, fuels, and coolants. The resulting film thickness depends entirely on the technical properties of the mating surface of the flange. Typical applications include battery housings for electric vehicles, connector housings, electric motors, and inverters.
