Schneider Electric, a leader in the digital transformation of energy management and automation, has recently secured first place on the list of the world's most sustainable companies in 2024 compiled by Time Magazine and Statista. This recognition reflects not only the tech group's ambitious goals to reduce its own emissions - the company aims to be carbon neutral by 2025 - but also its commitment to enabling its customers to operate sustainably in line with political objectives such as the Paris Climate Agreement or the European Green Deal.

Selection with a transparent, multi-stage methodology

To identify the world's most sustainable companies in 2024, Time Magazine and Statista used a transparent, multi-stage methodology. The process began with a comprehensive selection of more than 5,000 of the world's largest and most influential companies, taking into account factors such as turnover, market capitalisation and public awareness. Unsustainable sectors were then excluded from the outset and factors such as external sustainability audits and commitments, corporate reporting and environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance were assessed. This comprehensive approach led to a selection of 500 companies from over 30 countries.

Sustainability right down to the supply chain

Schneider Electric particularly impressed the judges with its technological expertise and the "Schneider Sustainability Impact (SSI)" programme. This transformative programme measures the company's progress towards the 2021-2025 global sustainability goals and contributes to six long-term commitments covering all environmental, social and governance dimensions. As part of this programme, Schneider Electric has supported its customers in reducing their carbon emissions, saving a total of 553 million tonnes of carbon dioxide since 2018. The company has also made great progress in transforming its own supply chain. CO2 emissions from the 1,000 most important suppliers have fallen by 27 percent since the start of the programme, and 21 percent of the Tech Group's strategic partners meet Schneider Electric's standards for decent work.

New sustainability targets to be achieved

"We are very honoured to be recognised as the most sustainable company in the world," said Peter Herweck, CEO of Schneider Electric, delighted with the result. "This award is a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability, which is embedded in everything we do. We take the environment, society and good corporate governance into account in our decisions and daily actions. That is why we are determined to continue to drive forward our sustainability goals and ensure that everyone makes a positive sustainable contribution."

Recognition from other quarters too

Just recently, Schneider Electric was also included in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index for the 13th consecutive year, where the company was ranked first in its industry and secured a place in the European index. This also reflects the company's strong environmental, social and governance performance, as sustainability is at the centre of its corporate strategy.
