The Young Engineering Award goes to Lisa Ihde
With the Young Engineering Award, Deutsche Messe is for the first time honoring a female expert from the STEM sector who is no more than 30 years old and who performs – or has already performed – extraordinary things in the technical environment. An independent jury comprised of the members of the WomenPower Congress Advisory Board has selected Lisa Ihde as winner from among the three finalists, thus honoring the immense commitment she exhibits in the STEM sector.21 Apr 2023
The initiative is intended to boost motivation for women to take up a career in the STEM sector.
The winner was announced during the opening of the WomenPower Career Congress on 21 April in Hannover. Prof. Barbara Schwarze, in her role as chairwoman of the WomenPower Jury, presented the Young Engineering Award to Lisa Ihde.
The jury, comprised of the members of the WomenPower Congress Advisory Board, had nominated three young women for this new award. In the end, Lisa Ihde, from the Hasso Plattner Institute Potsdam, triumphed. She is a web designer, game designer, software engineer and author.
As co-author, she was instrumental in writing the book "Gamedesign für Dummies Junior". Like the IT industry in general, the gaming industry is heavily male-dominated. This makes it all the more important for women in the industry to get involved to a greater extent, in order to change the image of women in digital games. With her commitment, Lisa is a role model for all young women who decide to pursue a career in IT or game design, and who need strong role models for these career choices.
The WomenPower Career Congress is one of the most successful networking and discussion events for women when it comes to diversity, career advancement, sustainability and new working environments. The event is held annually as part of HANNOVER MESSE and primarily aimed at participants from the STEM sector. Besides the program of lectures, presentations, panel discussions and workshops, WomenPower offers companies, associations, networks, organizations and trainers the opportunity to inform attendees in the accompanying exhibition about career prospects, study programs, coaching and mentoring schemes, along with other employment-related topics and trends. This year, the WomenPower Career Congress celebrates its 20th anniversary. Under the motto “Celebrate Diversity”, more than 1,000 participants are expected to attend the event.
