Pepperl+Fuchs, the Mannheim-based sensor pioneer, is breaking new ground with ultrasonic sensor technology for CAN-based applications in mobile machines: for the first time, machine builders can use E1-approved ultrasonic sensors with integrated CAN interfaces in their mobile machines - making the costly and time-consuming integration of additional CAN interfaces a thing of the past.

The latest addition to Pepperl+Fuchs' proven L2 product family allows convenient configuration of all sensor functions via CAN on a PLC (programmable logic controller), a PC (via DTM) or via a USB-CAN converter. Precise interference target suppression and adjustable sound lobe width also enable optimum adaptation to the application: protruding machine parts that could cause interference can be simply masked out, while the sound lobe can be adjusted without loss of scanning range. Autonomous synchronization should also make it possible to operate several ultrasonic sensors in close proximity to each other without any problems.

Once successfully parameterized, the new L2 CAN sensors can demonstrate the full strength of Pepperl+Fuchs' industrial ultrasonic technology, according to their developers: Regardless of material, surface structure and color, distances are measured reliably - even under the most difficult environmental conditions. Protection class IP68, high EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) and an extended temperature range from -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius testify to the robustness of the sensors. To simplify wiring of the devices on mobile machines, connections such as AMP and DEUTSCH are available in addition to variants with the round connectors commonly used in industrial automation.
