Thinking outside the box!
The new Safeguard Detector from SICK AG uses cardboard boxes in packaging machinery as a form of natural protection. The aim is to prevent unauthorized interference with the machine’s hazardous area during operation.25 Jul. 2018
Founded in Germany in 1946 by Dr. Erwin Sick, SICK AG boasts more than 50 subsidiaries and equity investments as well as numerous agencies around the globe. The company is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sensors and sensor solutions for industrial applications. One of the latest achievements of this innovative market and technology pioneer is the recently unveiled Safeguard Detector.
This modular safety system has been developed with enhanced safety and productivity of packaging machinery in mind. That’s why the Safeguard Detector combines two MultiPulse photoelectric proximity sensors with a UE410-SD safety evaluation module or a Flexi Soft safety controller. SICK promises that these two different combinations enable the solution to reliably recognize whether a movable physical guard is located at a predefined position - the packaging material in the carton magazine of a packaging machine, for example. As long as there is sufficient packaging in the carton magazine, the Safeguard Detector prevents anyone from reaching into the hazardous area while the machine is running.
