With the new “Bechtle CO2-Conscious IT” offering, Bechtle AG of Neckarsulm is further expanding its sustainable product portfolio. In the future, customers of the IT service provider will be able to offset CO2 emissions generated by the production and delivery of purchased IT hardware. For the offsets, Bechtle collaborates with its offset partner goodcarbon from Berlin, which can demonstrate compliance with relevant quality standards.

Detailed Reporting

CO2 emissions are calculated transparently by Bechtle and reported in detailed reports. Based on these calculations, customers can, upon request, offset the emission volume through projects verified and selected by Bechtle. Offsets are carried out through the partner goodcarbon, which uses a rigorous Nature Analytics Framework to develop, evaluate, and monitor nature-based projects (Nature-Based Solutions, NbS). This framework is designed to ensure that all projects meet the highest standards in terms of quality, transparency, and measurable impact.

“Every project undergoes a comprehensive review”

“Every project undergoes a comprehensive review regarding climate impact, biodiversity benefits, and social co-benefits. With the projects selected for ‘Bechtle CO2-Conscious IT,’ companies can demonstrate their Beyond Value Chain Mitigation measures with reliable projects in accordance with the requirements of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi),” explains Jérôme Cochet, Co-Founder & CEO of goodcarbon. By “Beyond Value Chain Mitigation,” the SBTi refers to climate protection projects that lie outside a company’s value chain and complement, but do not replace, direct emissions reductions. These include financing renewable energy projects in other countries, protecting or reforesting forests, projects that remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, and supporting initiatives that prevent emissions in developing countries.

New offering supports customers in achieving their climate protection goals

With this new service, Bechtle strengthens its positioning as a responsible and forward-looking IT partner and underscores its commitment to viewing sustainability in general—and climate protection in particular—as a central component of future-proof IT infrastructures. “With our new offset offering, we support our customers in achieving the goals of their climate strategies in a credible and transparent manner,” says Sophie Mándoki, Chief Sustainability Manager, Bechtle AG. “With ‘Bechtle CO2-Conscious IT,’ we combine environmental responsibility with tangible added value for our customers.”

The company’s own emissions are also offset

Despite optimized production and procurement processes, CO2 emissions cannot be completely avoided during the manufacture and delivery of IT hardware. Since they arise within the upstream value chain, they are included in carbon footprint calculations under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) in the Scope 3 category. With “Bechtle CO2-Conscious IT,” companies and public sector clients can offset these unavoidable emissions in their carbon footprint in accordance with GHG guidelines. Germany’s largest IT system house will also collaborate with goodcarbon to offset its own unavoidable emissions as part of the Bechtle Climate Protection Strategy 2030/2050 and the SBTi reduction targets.
