Terrestrial Trunked Radio, or TETRA for short, is a standard for digital trunked radio. As a standardized, universal platform for different mobile radio services (ETSI, EN 300), TETRA can be used to set up universal networks that can be used to handle the entire operational mobile radio of users such as public authorities, industrial or local transport companies. Over the past 40 years, HMF Smart Solutions, based in Bad Münder, has made a name for itself as a specialist for tailor-made and business-critical TETRA and 5G/LTE communication systems - for example 5G campus networks - as well as a competent supplier and partner for smart digitalization solutions and system integration.
Small solutions, big solutions
The Lower Saxony-based company implements projects in the field of professional mobile radio that are individually tailored to user requirements for industry, utilities and transport companies, the oil and gas industry as well as for security and emergency services - from highly available, secure radio systems for small and medium-sized companies to nationwide networks. HMF thus sees itself as a holistic solution provider whose core competence is comprehensive project support from a single source - from development and planning through to implementation, including services and network operation.
Successful project completion in the Netherlands
One of HMF Smart Solutions' current flagship projects is the mission-critical TETRA communications network for the Dutch security and rescue forces (C2000), which was finally approved last December. Since the beginning of the year, HMF's state-of-the-art ACCESSNET-T IP system has been used by the entire Dutch police force, fire department and all emergency services in the Netherlands. It meets the highest technological standards required and has so far performed securely, stably and reliably.
One of the most modern nationwide communication systems in Europe
"The final turnkey acceptance was another very special moment for HMF. We have now officially realized our largest TETRA project in the company's history. The radio system has been delivered in full, went live overnight in just one step and has been running successfully in regular operation ever since. We are very proud to have implemented and put into operation one of the most modern nationwide communication systems in Europe with our TETRA system in the Netherlands," says CEO Martin Hucke, who was in charge of the project from the very beginning.
Partnership since 2015 and beyond
The Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice commissioned HMF with the renewal of the nationwide TETRA network in 2015. An average of 18,600 radios are logged in every day via the new, state-of-the-art ACCESSNET T-IP system from HMF. Around 155,000 calls are counted per day and 100 emergency calls are processed.
With HMF, the Dutch emergency services will also have a strong partner at their side in the future, who will continue to provide intensive support for network operations and can make adjustments at any time if necessary. To this end, the HMF team has been in close contact with all parties involved and users since the migration. This ensures, among other things, that the highest availability requirements in the network are met at all times.
