WEG is a worldwide manufacturer of electric motors whose German branch is located in Kerpen. With its Motor Scan , the company unveiled a device for real-time monitoring of its motors at ACHEMA 2018 in Frankfurt am Main. The data recorded are sent to an intelligent app for Android and Apple iOS devices, and the software can manage any number of motors.
The slimline Motor Scan is just 4.4 x 3.8 cm in size and can be retrofitted to WEG electric motors of IEC size 63 to 450. In addition to surface temperature and operating period, it measures the vibrations of the motor by means of three-axis vibration measurement of up to 3 kHz. WEG is also planning to record rotational speed, start/stop time, load and efficiency in future versions. Even with the first version it is possible to plan preventive and predictive maintenance work and thus to increase the service life of the motors significantly.
According to WEG, the battery of the Motor Scan is designed to last three years, while the device should function in temperatures between -40℃ and +80℃. The data is transmitted via Bluetooth or a gateway that is still under development to a cloud, where the data can then be accessed through the app or a web portal – the WEG IoT platform.
