What is art for? Building a bridge to engineering!
FERCHAU Engineering crowns winners of the ART OF ENGINEERING 2014 competition
Share
Every two years – alternating with the FERCHAU Innovation Award – a prestigious jury drawn from business, research, museums and universities gathers at FERCHAU’s headquarters in Gummersbach, Germany to select the three finalists for the interdisciplinary art competition ART OF ENGINEERING. The three winners were chosen from well over a hundred submissions on the theme “Liquid Space,” and their final placement will be announced at HANNOVER MESSE 2014. The ART OF ENGINEERING prizes will be awarded by Lower Saxony Minister for Science and Culture, Dr. Gabriele Heinen-Kljajić, during a ceremony on 7 April on the VDI stage, Hall 2, Stand D36.
Static exhibits as well as installations and concepts designed to represent a symbolic bridge between art and engineering were submitted under the Liquid Space theme. This family company wants its competition to encourage artists as well as architects, engineers and IT consultants to enter the interdisciplinary field that stretches between art and engineering. The art contest’s partners include Fraunhofer Gesellschaft and VDI, as well as Technische Universität Berlin, the Museum of Applied Art Frankfurt, UNICUM Verlag, Internationale Bionik-Zentrum, Cologne University of Applied Sciences, Academy of Media Arts Cologne and the VDI “Sachen machen” (“making things”) initiative. The top prize includes a €10,000 cash award, with the second and third place winners receiving €7,000 and €3,000, respectively.
