Guardus from Ulm, Germany, is a provider of software solutions for computer-aided quality assurance and manufacturing management systems. It is to be integrated at Zeiss into the Industrial Metrology division. This gives customers a “fully integrated analysis and control function for production.” Proprietary software such as the quality data management system Zeiss PiWeb will also be supplemented by a previously unavailable comprehensive database thanks to the acquisition . “We are concerned with the foundation for automated control processes, learning systems, and simulation methods for networked and intelligent quality assurance in smart factories,” said Dr. Jochen Peter , Zeiss Group board member. The focus is on the automotive and engineering industries as well as medical technology.

Zeiss has been pushing the digital transformation for a long time. In May 2017, the Group entered into a cooperation agreement with Cisco . The objective is to jointly develop a secure data transmission platform to connect Zeiss devices such as measuring machines with higher-level systems in the Industry 4.0 environment during operation. In addition, Zeiss is a member of the ADAMOS Alliance (Adaptive Manufacturing Open Solutions). A global industry standard for Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things is to be established along with DMG Mori, Dürr, Software AG and ASM.
