AI project Spaicer wants to make industry more resilient

Disruptions can be fatal for industrial production processes. The Spaicer project, which has won an innovation competition run by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, is investigating how companies can leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to arm themselves against disruptions.

More than 130 consortiums took part in the competition, but just 15 qualified for funding. Spaicer is a project led by the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). RWTH Aachen University and Darmstadt University of Technology, as well as Schott, Schaeffler, and other companies are also involved in the project. The objective is to develop an ecosystem and a platform that will make it easier for manufacturers to adapt quickly to changing production networks. In addition, the transfer of knowledge to industry is to be promoted through certificates, as well as training and further training on resilience.

The term ‘resilience’ originates from the field of psychology and, in a nutshell, describes the ability to develop inner strength and cope with crises. In terms of industry, it means the ability of companies to constantly adapt to internal and external changes and disruptions in an increasingly complex world.
