5G is to be made available for ongoing production covering an area of over 20,000 square meters. Installation of the network is the job of Telefonica Deutschland and Ericsson , while the operator will be Mercedes-Benz Cars. The network is intended to improve production processes. Machines and systems can be used more efficiently and precisely through intelligent networking. Daimler anticipates advantages in terms of data security from its local 5G network.

Eriksson is installing several 5G small cell indoor antennas and a central 5G hub to set the network up. As a result, the entire production and assembly system and all of the transport equipment will become compatible with the Internet of Things. Data can be linked in this way and products located in the system. As the network operates entirely autonomously, it can be adapted to market requirements at any time. 5G technology also makes it possible to process large data volumes.
