Hannover, Germany. An independent jury made up of members of the WoMenPower conference advisory committee has announced the nomination of three women for the Engineer Powerwoman award . Endowed with 5,000 euros, the award is dedicated to encouraging companies to reward the performance and special commitment of their female employees engaged in STEM occupations. The winner will be announced at the opening event for the WoMenPower careers conference on 27 April. The following women were nominated: Sophia Hatzelmann (ahc GmbH), Irina Lucke (EWE Offshore Service & Solutions GmbH) and Ariane Wyen (OHB System AG).

Sophia Hatzelmann is an electrical engineer and has been active for 20 years as a project manager and consultant in the automotive and mechanical engineering industry. She is the founder and managing director of the technical management consultancy ahc GmbH and is also involved in the international Augmania Augmented Reality startup, with responsibility for its European sales. Ms. Hatzelmann is one of ten Industry 4.0 scouts from the German state of Baden-Württemberg, and is also head of the state's STEM commission. In addition, she is actively involved in the "FRAUEN unternehmen" (WOMEN enterprising) initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, speaking at schools and universities.

Irina Lucke, Managing Director of EWE Offshore Service & Solutions GmbH , is one of the pioneers of wind power on the high seas. She was the key person in charge of building Borkum Riffgat, the first commercial offshore wind farm in the North Sea, and played a major role in the construction of Germany's first offshore wind farm, alpha ventus. She is the Chairwoman of the Board of Management at the Bremerhaven Wind Energy Agency, Germany's leading wind energy association, and co-initiator of EWE's "Women with Energy" network. Ms. Lucke is a lecturer at the ForWind Academy as well as the Summer School of the Renewable Energy Cluster.

Ariane Wyen, Structural Subsystem Engineer at OHB System AG , is the main contact person in the area of structural analysis and verification for the SARah satellite project, a satellite-based radar reconnaissance system. As an engineering manager, she defines the specifications for the tendering of structural parts, helps select suppliers and supervises the production process as well as quality assurance. She is responsible for the creation and implementation of standardized processes in her department, which often lead to a significant increase in efficiency. Ms. Wyen delivers lectures as part of the "Women's Class" initiative and is a speaker for the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) at the "ESA Promotion Day" series, staged at northern German universities.

WoMenPower

The WoMenPower careers conference attracts over 1,400 participants and ranks as one of Europe's foremost platforms for success strategies and innovative forms of work. As an annual fixture at HANNOVER MESSE, it will be held this year on Friday, 27 April. The WoMenPower conference comprises lectures, seminars and workshops, plus a supporting exhibition.
