Let me clear that up …
A. Woltering GmbH & Co. KG celebrated its new venture into the treatment plant segment with a completely revamped stand at HANNOVER MESSE 2017, which proved a real crowd-puller.

Since it was established in 1989 on the very western edge of Germany, Alfred Woltering GmbH & Co. KG has built up an impeccable reputation as a family-run supplier for a range of industrial sectors. The Woltering Group has focused mainly on manufacturing medium-sized and large CNC precision parts and ready-to-install system components. Its team of one hundred or so specialists possesses the high level of expertise required to meet even the most demanding customer and product requirements. The opportunity this solid foundation provides for further growth was reflected not only in Woltering’s new-look stand at HANNOVER MESSE 2017, but in a whole new line of business, too!

To start with, Woltering’s redesigned stand drew crowds of inquisitive visitors, including a number of big names from industry and politics. But North Rhine-Westphalia’s State Secretary for the Environment, Peter Knitsch, was clearly even more impressed by Managing Director Tobias Woltering's explanation of the reasoning and aims behind the company’'s new move into the treatment plant construction segment. "Companies are showing how future technologies really make an impression on the market and bring a clear competitive edge," Knitsch remarked. "It is also great to see more and more skilled trades operations spotting a chance to develop their business this way," said the State Secretary in praise of the Woltering Group’s foresighted venture.

Energy-efficient bus link between Germany and Poland
German Chancellor Angela Merkel was not the only one at HANNOVER MESSE 2017 to show great interest in Ziehl-Abegg's innovative fuel cell bus, which was developed in cooperation with Ursus from Partner Country Poland and has a range of 450 kilometers without recharging.

HANNOVER MESSE 2017 gave Ziehl-Abegg’s CEO Peter Fenkl the opportunity to present an innovative fuel cell bus to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Partner Country Poland’s Prime Minister Beata Szydło. The electric bus resulting from the collaboration between Ziehl-Abegg and Ursus from Germany and Poland respectively has an operating range of 450 kilometers without recharging. What’s more, the charging process takes just eight minutes. The efficiency of over 90 percent achieved thanks to Ziehl-Abegg’s in-wheel hub motors will be globally unprecedented. "Buses operating on scheduled services can double their range despite the fact that the battery packs are smaller than in the past," said Fenkl.

The City Smile electric bus from Ursus is twelve meters long, with a seating capacity of 29 and a standing capacity of 47. It has a maximum output of 364 kW, a top speed of 85 km/h and a fuel consumption of around 6.8 kilograms of hydrogen per 100 kilometers. With a range extender in the form of a fuel cell, the Ursus bus generates electricity from the rapidly rechargeable fuel while on the move. The resultant waste heat can also be used to heat the vehicle on cold days. Fuel cells do not produce any local emissions, are extremely quiet and, when using "green" hydrogen, even enable completely CO2-free operation. With the range extender on show in Hannover, the new buses have a range of some 450 kilometers. Ziehl-Abegg's ZAwheel electric motor is located in the wheel hub itself, which is key to this impressive operating range. Dispensing with the need for "energy guzzlers" such as transmission and differential boosts the drive's efficiency to over 90 percent. Recuperation technology that recharges the batteries during braking is a contributing factor to this.

The first time is always special
IBYKUS AG für Informationstechnologie is one of the leading IT service providers in central Germany. Its debut at HANNOVER MESSE this year placed its MITAN 4T ERP system in the limelight.

IBYKUS AG - established in Erfurt, Thuringia, in 1990 - celebrated a hugely successful premiere at HANNOVER MESSE 2017. IBYKUS AG showcased the MITAN 4T ERP system to maximum effect in an Industry 4.0 application that made it the star of the stand. The IoT demonstration exemplified cutting-edge process optimization, encompassing digitalized planning, manufacturing and administrative processes at the same as capturing and evaluating data gathered by sensors.

The installation was on show at the approx. 300 m2 Thuringia pavilion that enabled IBYKUS and other companies from the region not only to network with one another but also to draw HANNOVER MESSE visitors from all over the world. "We were looking primarily to address industrial SMEs with our solutions. The response was excellent," said sales representative Sascha Tönert as HANNOVER MESSE 2017 drew to an end, adding: "We were delighted to welcome some of our long-standing MITAN customers to the stand, too." Because the new concepts on show matched so well with the requirements of the target groups at the trade fair, the team from IBYKUS AG was pleased with both the number and quality of contacts the event generated. The company expects business to swell in the wake of the trade fair.

Taking the hardest work off your hands

MDESIGN GmbH has demonstrated just some of the applications that can benefit from time-saving calculation, optimization and documentation of components and component groups along with new solutions to ease integration into existing CAD environments.

One of the major stumbling blocks when it comes to implementing end-to-end digitalization as part of Industry 4.0 is undoubtedly the enormous range of existing and newly developed systems that refuse to speak each other’s language. Thus one of software developers' top priorities has to be ensuring that integrating their programs into all kinds of systems can be accomplished as smoothly as possible. Among the wealth of new time-saving solutions for calculating, optimizing and documenting components and component groups that MDESIGN GmbH from Bochum was showcasing at HANNOVER MESSE 2017, its new MDESIGN CAD integration options proved the absolute show-stopper.

The MDESIGN CAD interface breaks down the barriers that have hindered users importing model and geometrical data from CAD systems into its MDESIGN package. Any changes to the model are then exported back to the original CAD system in STEP format. This considerably reduces the work involved in transmitting and defining the data, while also minimizing errors and speeding up decisions and verifications with MDESIGN.

The new version of MDESIGN for multi-bolt calculations also generated great interest. Visitors to the stand were given a first-hand insight into how the additional features of MDESIGN multibolt can now calculate loads and forces for bolt patterns to VDI standards. What’s more, the latest version of MDESIGN multibolt can already provide solid results during the dimensioning and design process not only for rotation-symmetrical but now also for rectangular and many other kinds of bolt patterns.

In safe hands
The new 3D Robot Vision product range from ISRA VISION unveiled at HANNOVER MESSE 2017 scans a container's entire contents in seconds, enabling reliable access by automated gripper tools, even for complex components.

Unfortunately, industrial production environments are not subject to any uniform industrial standards. Production systems thus need to be continuously adapted to the specific conditions. Image processing sensors face a number of demanding requirements. Incident ambient light, limited space, changing components and container types and short cycle times are just a few of the common challenges - challenges that ISRA VISION AG, based in Darmstadt, Germany, is keen to embrace. The IntelliPICK sensor range showcased at HANNOVER MESSE 2017 has been specially designed for the challenges on production lines and thus supports even fully automated bin picking.

The IntelliPICK3D generation of sensors premiered in Hannover - the successors to the tried-and-tested SHAPESCAN3D Robot Vision product range - offer various new functions in particular. They are also set to be expanded in the future with various sizes and embedded technology through the ongoing development of the Touch & Automate portfolio. For example, the Fast Collision Check enables positioning of a number of parts in sequence for pick-and-place operations. Thanks to the additional applications, the technological potential of the IntelliPICK sensor range is set to cover virtually all the processes along the production line in the future. In practical terms, this means that users don’t just save time and money at the beginning and end of a production chain but also in gripping processes during production.
