Sustainable value creation with predictable materials
The Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials IWM conducts research for sustainability in industrial value creation. The institute opens up new pathways and areas of innovation for the longevity and safety of components, resource efficiency in process chains, and the energy efficiency of machines. To this end, the institute makes materials in process chains, components, and machines predictable in terms of their behavior and properties. For industrial companies and public clients, Fraunhofer IWM researches the effects of mechanical, tribological, thermal, electrical, and chemical stresses on the function and durability of materials and develops solutions so that they can be used in processes and components as adjustable systems. The institute enables companies to use materials in a knowledge-based way as the key to competitiveness and sustainability.
