The development of a climate-neutral air transport system is a key component of sustainable mobility in a globalised world. Through a multidisciplinary, cross-system analysis of the interactions between aerodynamics, acoustics, flight physics, structural mechanics and thermodynamics, our SynTrac research network is investigating the scientific principles of aircraft and propulsion technologies for future highly efficient aircraft.
The aim is to significantly increase the energy efficiency of future commercial aircraft through the consistent further development of aircraft and propulsion technologies. A particular focus is on the greatly increased integration of propulsion systems, which promises additional energy savings of 10–20% compared to the optimisation of existing technologies. The project thus makes a significant contribution to achieving economic, social and ecological sustainability goals, as well as to the global, climate-neutral networking of individuals and businesses.
