The Chair Intelligent Material Systems Lab (iMSL) at Saarland University conducts research into the development of mechatronic actuator/sensor systems with intelligent materials. The focus is on system solutions - from the basis to the application.
Innovative actuators and sensors based on dielectric elastomers and shape memory alloys will supplement or replace conventional actuators in the future. They are characterized by their extreme flexibility, fast actuation, intelligent properties and small required installation space. With the first continuously operating elastocaloric "heat pump", iMSL is developing disruptive technologies based on heating and cooling processes with solids. With a COP of up to 30 and the elimination of climate-damaging refrigerants, this is the heating and cooling technology of the future. Thanks to the cooperation with mateligent GmbH, the innovative technology approaches are being transferred to series production and the market together with customers.
