The comX communication module is a bolt-on option module and designed for the integration intonearly any automation device in order to add an industrial network interface. Typical areas of use are robot controllers, PLCs or drives.
The module executes all communication tasks autonomously and independent of the target device’s application processor. The exchange of the process data to the host processor is done via a 16kByte Dual-Port-Memory, either as 8-/16-bit parallel bus interface or as 50 MHz SPI interface. comX is available in different types: With a network connector onboard, a connector to the mainboard or withintegrated slave address switches.
comX allows the usage of all major Fieldbus and Real-Time Ethernet protocols as Master or Slave. Supporting all industrial Ethernet protocols, comX is equipped with two Ethernet ports for line topology. A change of the communication protocol is done by simply loading a different firmware and adding a software license for master functionality.
Besides Real-Time Ethernet communication, comX includes an integrated Webserver as well as an additional transparent Ethernet channel to realize own IT solutions in the host processor of the device. Vertical network integration is enabled by upgrading comX to implement a OPC UA server or MQTTclient functionality.
All comX modules have the same dimensions and are pin-compatible to each other. Thus, exactly one baseboard design covers the whole range of network protocols. Thanks to the common HilscherPlatform strategy, all comX modules have the same interfaces and use the same device driver and tools.
