AQM improves the performance of polymers with bio-nanomaterials. Our bio-compatible silica-based nanomaterials can provide new functionality such as UV blocking, anti-bacterial, optical, conductive, magnetic properties, hydrophobic, or tensile strength improvements to polymers. Tunable surface chemistry opens the door to compatibility with countless types of polymers with hydrophobic to hydrophilic matrices. Our silica nanorods have been used with Nylon 6, polyester, polyimide, polystyrene, latex, rubber, thermoplastic polyurethane, etc. Applications include automotive tires, textiles, optical films. Nanomaterials impart unique properties due to their nanoscale size. Shapes range from uniform to irregular structures depending on application. A mix of surface functionality and particle geometry allow for enhanced filler-filler and filler-matrix interactions. The greater the filler-matrix interfacial bonding, the stronger the reinforcing properties. Our materials properties include,
• Bright white
• Non-toxic, silica is non-crystalline
• Chemically inert & thermally resistant
• Nano-sized and anisotropic in dimensions (100-300 nm x 10-50 nm)
• Dispersibility in polar and non-polar solvents
• Tailorable surface chemistry
• Low loadings (< 2 wt%) in polymers provide large increases (30 to 80%) in mechanical properties
