Introducing Toraymill™ PPS, a polyphenylene sulfide polymer powder product, developed and optimized for Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) 3D printing technology by Toray Industries, Inc. PBF 3D printing is ideal for rapid fabrication of prototypes for performance evaluation and for small lot custom-made products. PPS polymer, for which Toray is the world’s leader, is a super high performance engineering plastic. In addition to its high heat resistance and mechanical strength, it has excellent chemical resistance, inherent flame retardance and low water absorption.
Parts fabricated using Toraymill™ PPS have the performance features of PPS such as: high strength and rigidity, plus fatigue and creep resistance. In addition, its good powder flow-ability allows for the addition of fillers and reinforcements. With glass fiber (GF) and carbon fiber (CF) reinforced grades, Toray offers some of the strongest 3D printing materials available.
Case Studies and Examples are as follows.
Case 1: Automotive Bus bars, Connectors, Sensor cases (performance evaluation prototypes)
Case 2: Electronic component transport tray (end product)
Case 3: Robotic Manipulator (end product)
Case 4: Valves and pump parts (performance evaluation prototypes)
Case 5: Ducts, nozzles, and throttle bodies (performance evaluation prototypes)
Case 6: CFRP reinforced Toraymill™ PPS is considered for PBF 3D Printing of custom molds and jigs requiring durable precision over extended usage.
