Following the machines, the first of up to 700 employees are scheduled to commence work starting in the spring of 2020 at the Dresden semiconductor factory . In addition to the plant in Reutlingen, it is the second Bosch Group factory in Germany in the semiconductor segment. The company aims to strengthen its market position in a key technology for IoT and mobility solutions. According to US market research institute Gartner , global semiconductor sales increased by 22.2% just in 2017, with Intel being replaced by Samsung Electronics as a leading producer.

Bosch will be entering the production technology of 300-mm wafers in Dresden for the first time and drastically accelerate chip production by using artificial intelligence, for example. In highly automated production, the production systems will analyze their process data themselves in order to optimize their processes. Moreover, the planning and process engineers can access this data at any time.
