Fluid 4.0 is a joint research project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), focusing on the digitalization of fluid power technologies. The project aims to digitally describe, connect, and leverage fluid power components and systems across their entire life cycle. Its technological foundation is the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) as a standardized digital twin.
Along practical use cases spanning the entire value chain—systems and controls, energy efficiency, Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), and circular economy—the project develops concrete demonstrators and transferable solutions. Manufacturers, machine builders and OEMs, users, and research institutions collaborate to establish a cross‑company, cross‑industry data space.
Fluid 4.0 demonstrates how digitalization, sustainability, and new data‑driven business models can be successfully combined in fluid power technology.
